Resources, ideas and examples supplied by a new friend from South Africa, Peter Stewart.
The writing process begins with idea generation. Brainstorm what you want to write about. With mind mapping software you can capture the first burst of Ideas and then expand, arrange, web, map, link, share, revise, collaborate…. it’s a long sweet list of activities that will engage your students in the process of thinking and writing.
The key for teachers (not a big barrier for kids) is to master the software to the point where they can use it as easily as paper and pencil. (By then the realization that mind mapping is so much more than that first blurt has firmly taken hold).
Consider it… and persist to the point where the revelations begin to occur!
